The marginal notes and smudges, though acts of erasure, are also traces of “this once existed.” In the act of self-critique, there emerges an unexpected pleasure—something akin to the joy of “welcoming correction.”

眉批塗抹，雖是刪除，但也是〔此曾在〕的痕跡。在自我批判之中竟能感受到愉悅，或近〔聞過則喜〕之況味也。
