Shadows in the Air
Calligrapher’s note:
Each spring the white swallows fly west, awaiting the season’s bright sun.
Flowers bloom—yet in what secret garden do they hide?
At the emperor’s suburban rites, auspicious hues appear,
And on the host’s terraces and pavilions, radiance gleams.
Light brushstrokes, like rain upon gauze just cut,
Slender sleeves trail on the wind, lengthening like silk.
Then eastward they vanish in a blink—
For sea and sky alike are but their native home of drifting clouds." (by Xu Wei ) Note: Paper bears the manifold forms of calligraphy—its quiet, yielding power.
When the paper vanishes, the brush’s traces drift into open space,
unfolding as a new free and easy wandering of the art.
