To Daozhou (Huang Daozhou)

Calligrapher’s note:

Critics of Ming Dynasty often praised the integrity of Military General & Calligrapher Huang Daozhou (1585-1646) : “His academic achievement was like an armory—complete and without deficiency.” Such was the reverence he inspired. Daozhou himself believed that a true hero should devote himself to benifit the world; writing calligraphy was only among his last concerns. Yet the artistry of his calligraphy is of the highest state, carrying profound meaning even in our time.
