畫中主角為台灣另一位傳奇的「運匠畫家」周孟德（1953年生）。兩人在 70 年代末於彰化仁愛實驗學校等時期便建立了深厚的情誼與藝術交流。陳來興用其幽默描述好友的聾啞但美麗的愛妻（畫中故意不畫其嘴部）與母親的怨言（畫中母親眼鏡塗白表示視而不見）而周孟德本人則雙手掩耳以示充耳不聞的中立態度，記錄了這位日後一邊開計程車、一邊瘋狂熱愛畫畫的「藝術摯友」早期的家庭肖像。這種難得的「畫家畫畫家」的同代紀實題材，比一般的街頭或風景描繪更具備藝術史的重量。

當一個藝術家在畫另一個他尊敬或熟悉的藝術家時，通常帶著高度的「精神對話與較勁」。陳來興在面對同為畫家的周孟德時，其表現主義的筆觸、用色、內在情感的投注，會比他畫普通的雇主或素人肖像更加專注、直覺且強烈。這種藝術張力是藏家一眼就能看出的。

風景、靜物或普通人物寫生，畫家一生可以畫成百上千幅。但是「畫同代藝術摯友」的作品可能一輩子就只有幾幅，甚至僅此一幅。

The central figure is Chou Meng-Teh (b. 1953), another legendary Taiwanese artist often described as a “taxi-driver painter.” Chen and Chou had already formed a close friendship and artistic exchange by the late 1970s, including the period around Changhua Jen-Ai Experimental School. With characteristic humor, Chen depicts his friend’s beautiful deaf-mute wife by deliberately omitting her mouth; the mother’s complaints are suggested through white-painted eyeglasses, as if “turning a blind eye”; Chou himself covers both ears, humorously maintaining a neutral “I hear nothing” position. The painting records an early family portrait of the artist-friend who would later drive a taxi while pursuing painting with extraordinary passion. As a rare contemporaneous record of “an artist painting an artist,” the subject carries greater art-historical weight than ordinary street scenes or landscapes.
